Q&A with Kelsey Scott, Our Public Relations Intern

Last week, we sat down with our public relations intern Kelsey to learn a little bit about her life, her ambitions and what she would do if she didn’t have to sleep anymore. Yep, we asked her that! Read on for all the fun.

Question: What is your year in school and major?

Kelsey Scott: I’m a senior at the University of Oregon pursuing a B.S. in journalism and communication with an emphasis in public relations and a minor in business administration.

Q: Describe yourself in 3 words.

KS: Passionate. Attentive. Engaging.

Q: If you didn’t have to sleep, what would you do with the extra time?

KS: First, I would treat myself to some screen time with my guilty pleasure, Netflix. I could binge-watch Parks & Recreation or Gilmore Girls for hours. After getting tired of video streaming marathons, I would catch up on some reading, explore new hobbies, and even take on a second job to fill up my spare time.

Q: If you suddenly became a master at woodworking, what would you make?

KS: This question ties back to my love for Parks & Recreation. I think handcrafting a wooden canoe would be both rewarding and fun, while honoring one of my favorite fictional television personalities, Ron Swanson.

Q: What is your favorite social media platform and why?

KS: Overall, I would say that my favorite social media platform is Instagram. I’ve watched the platform grow and evolve over the years, and appreciate its ability to reach an audience in a very visual and interactive way.

Yet, Twitter is definitely my go-to when I am looking for the latest news.

Q: What is your greatest fear?

KS: I am not particularly fond of heights. I’ve ridden my fair share of roller coasters and Ferris wheels, but I could never find myself voluntarily jumping from a plane or dangling from a bungee cord.

Q: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received?

KS: My grandfather always reiterated the importance of approaching every situation with a smile. The frequent letters he sent to me always encouraged the simple task of initiating a warm smile with each person I come across, as he believed kindness should be very instinctive.

Q: What stat for your life would you most like to see?

KS: I’m curious how many people I’ve met throughout my lifetime. I also think it would be fascinating—and a little terrifying—to calculate how much money I’ve spent over the course of my life.

Q: If you didn’t work in PR and marketing, what job would you have?

KS: I could see myself as an interior designer, small business owner or event planner. I love doing hands-on tasks that involve creativity, individuality and a knack for organization.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

KS: In ten years, I would love to be working within a niche sector of pubic relations or marketing like travel, lifestyle, or food and beverage. I’m very excited to see what the next ten years bring!
